Power Of Glass
Google has finally taken technology one step further and almost made my dream a reality. In April, they began shipping out the Explorer version of Google Glass to the public, intended for beta testers and apps developers.
Until today, more than 80 applications were developed to complement the use of the Glass despite it still being in the Explorer version. This proves to many out there, though not all, that they are eager with this fantastic creation by Google.
Despite being released only in the US, Malaysia however, has its very own Google Glass owners.
We were excited and over the top to have this personal experience and to have interviewed this lucky person.
Joe Lee, among the very few Google Glass owners in Malaysia, explains that in the beginning there were very few units of the Glass which was priced at US$1,500 and they were only meant for US citizens with US postal addresses.
However, after looking at the increasing trend for the demand of Glass’, Google increased its production for a second batch and Joe is one of those lucky ones to have his hand on this exciting creation.
“I managed to get this at RM6,300 inclusive of tax and shipping cost. Fortunately, with the help and courtesy of a friend living in the US, I’m one of the very few owners of the early version of Google Glass in Malaysia.
US Price : US$1,500
Malaysia Price : RM6,300
Downside Of The Google Glass
According to Joe Lee, the only downside for this incredible technology is its battery.
It can last for a day on stand-by mode but if used continuously for photography and uploading, the battery drains out in just an hour or two. For such a pricey item, the battery can't sustain for a decent amount of time.
However, a full recharge for only an hour conceals its downside. Being in the Explorer version, we can say the possibility is endless. Perhaps not everyone will go the Google Glass way but with the expansion of technology, nothing is impossible.
